Mat Classes are great for an introduction to Pilates. We welcome beginners but have experience to give more advanced students opportunities to step up their workout. At Arc Pilates we design our classes to address every part of your body.
First we bring you into an awareness of your breath. Breath awareness is key to releasing tension, understanding holding patterns in the body and supporting the immune system.
We believe that bodies need mobility and stability. We explore shoulder mobility to unwind hours sitting at a desk and working a mouse. Opening up the shoulders and thorax helps to increase breath flow and relates to releasing tension in the lower back and pelvis. Mobile shoulders help a mobile spine which helps flexibility in the hips.
The notion of core stability is something we explore in the Mat classes. If your job involves a lot of sitting then your abdominals will not be put under load required to maintain a supple, strong support system. Rather than creating a rigid trunk we want abdominals that support our bodies in different positions and allow us to flex, extend and rotate our spines without problems.
Please contact us if you have a history of injury or chronic pain and are unsure if you are safe to move in our classes. We can suggest the best path forward to get you moving again. It might be that an Initial 1:1 session will help you feel confident and safe before join a group class.

Terms
We run the classes as terms, taking a break around school holidays. You are welcome to join any time through the term.
Term 1
12th January – 2nd April 2026
Term 2
13th April – 4th July 2026
Term 3
20th July – 19th September 2026
Term 4
28th September – 21st Dec 2026
* No classes on public holidays including Labour Day, Melbourne Cup and Anzac Day.
Prices
All packs expire 12 weeks after first session. Cancellation up to 6 hours before a class. In the event of further Covid restrictions all packs will be extended.
